Bulk URL Opener

  • by

The aim of this extension is to be the best bulk url opener for Chrome. Currently it supports large number of options (see below) with more coming in each next revision.

To get the Bulk URL Opener extension — click the links below. The Chrome version will work on all chromium browsers (Opera, Edge…) while the Opera version is repacked for Opera:

Protect Your Browser

Recently I started using a browser plugin called “Guardio” and I was so impressed, that I installed it on all of my browsers and decided to promote them on my sites. It adds a layer of security directly in the browser. Guardio is lightweight browser extension and includes everything you expect from good antivirus and more: scan your browser plugins for malware, real-time protection from malicious sites, privacy protection and more. And you can install it right from the chrome store.

First Steps After Installing Bulk URL Opener

After installing it in your browser, find it among the other icons and pin it to the toolbar:

To launch Bulk URL Opener, just click the icon:

The extension should be quite easy to use. Just enter each URL in separate line and click the “Open All” button:

There are some settings available: to open each URL in new tab or window, to save the list etc. These should be abvious, but in case you need more help with the settings, click the button below:

Enter each URL in new line and click the “Open All”. The app will then open all the pages in separate tabs or windows — depending on your settings (read about settings below).

You may skip the scheme (protocol) part for “http://” sites. For example — instead of full url, you may just type and the http:// part will be automatically added.

There are some quick buttons you may want to use: pastecopy and clear (located just under the URLs box). The paste button will clear all the current URLs and paste the clipboard content. Copy will copy all URLs into the clipboard. The Clear button will, obviously, clear all the URLs from the list.

There are several settings available that you can use to customize extension’s behavior:

By default (until you select other option) the app will open each URL in new tab.

Select this option to open each page in it’s own window

Check this to set a maximum limit of tabs/windows to be opened. This option is useful if you have large list with URLs and want to open only a specified number at once. This may be used along with “remove URLs” (see below) if you want to open pages in batches.

Check this if you want to keep the URLs saved for the next time you run the app. If unchecked, the extension will not preserve the current URL list on exit.

This option is particularry useful if you want to open a number of URLs in batches (along with “Open only the first X URLs” option above). If checked, all processed URLs will be deleted from the URL List.

What’s New

Now, this is the list of the latest changes:

Version 2.1 (February 19, 2024)

The new feature in this revision is once again — per user request.

I added “Extract from Current Tab” button:

This will get all <a href=”…”> tags from the current tab and put these in the “URL List”.

Note that this will not work on all pages. Chrome prevents extensions from accessing chrome://, chrome-extensions://, and similar pages, and pages located on the chrome webstore itself.

Let me know if you find a bug in this new feature.

Version 2.0 (January 6, 2024)

In this version the ‘Bulk URL Opener‘ extension just got much better

1.All the options are now on the popup itself, single-click away.

2.I added dark mode support, so now if your OS is set to dark mode the extension will use black color scheme

3.I added “import” and “export” functions so now you can load and save lists to disk.

4.Added “extract” button that will extract all valid urls from whatever you paste in the box (click the new URL Tools link for even better extraction options)

5.Migrated the extension to “manifest 3” and fixed some small glitches here or there

6.For all the power users, I made another, complementary web app (look for the new URL Tools link) that you can open from within the extension with even more url tools and features (like normalization, adding prefix/suffix, search&replace, mass QR generator etc.) and finally

7.I added my contact & social handles for anyone interested
